Improv as Medicine

Hollie Laudal joined Melissa McNulty in an interview which will be aired Wednesday, November 2nd at 9 am MST on 93.5 KNCE Taos and on truetaosradio.com to explore the concept of Improv as Medicine.  Jason Pfeifer, Hollie Laudal, and Irene Loy recently started a business which they call Improv Medicine.  As an interactive improv group, they have performed at Health Conferences, Business Meetings, along with other events.  Hollie also runs an improv class every Wednesday at 6 pm at Metta Theater in El Prado, NM.

Part one of the interview delves into Hollie's transformation from sickness to health and how improv played a large part in that process.  In part two of the interview we go into depth about all of the ways improv is medicine and how it can help us grow within ourselves and in our lives.  Part three discusses Hollie's new book coming out this March -- a Memoir of her time as a hospice chaplain.  It is a fascinating and informative interview that provides us with multiple tools to help foster our mental and emotional growth and wellbeing.

                                                7 Ways Improv is Medicine

1.       Fosters the Balance of expressing and listening (Yin and Yang) and creating your own reality as well as joining another person’s reality.

2.       Supports taking a leap into the unknown, being in flow and presence.

3.       Promotes acting and speaking from the heart.

4.       Requires cooperation- each line builds the other person up- the idea of supporting the whole.

5.       Encourages you to bring your feelings in as medicine and turn them into what you need.

6.       Helps you notice the Gap and to step into that Gap and make choices rather than react.

7.       It bursts the bubble of taking ourselves too seriously.
